"Grief, the isolation of motherhood, unwelcome company, and the quiet power of a home-cooked meal"
Overview
In their snowy new country, a Middle Eastern mother and her young daughter spend a perfect winter day together. They cook, color, and laugh, wrapped in the gentle rhythm of domestic life. There's comfort in the ordinary, and in each other. But as night falls and the daughter is tucked into bed, a knock at the door disrupts the calm. An uninvited guest arrives, loud and intrusive, overflowing with meaningless gossip and complaints. She moves through the kitchen like a storm, insisting on cooking a spice-laden Indian dish no one asked for. Her words are relentless. Her presence, overwhelming. The mother endures it in silence as tension simmers between them, rising with the steam from the stove. Then, it breaks.
