Overview
Film footage from an eventful decade marked by a severe economic crisis, mass unemployment and poverty, the Jordaan riots of 1934, and the rise of fascism. Yet Amsterdam continued to grow: with the development of the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Forest), the construction of Plan Zuid, the new Berlage Bridge, and the opening of the Ajax Stadium in the Watergraafsmeer district. Featuring historical advertisements and beautiful colour footage from the late 1930s. The film can be viewed free of charge in the cinema room of the Amsterdam City Archives.
